Velosity Acquires Lucid Labs to Bolster Medtech Engineering

New product development, engineering and rapid prototyping services capabilities complement expertise in tooling, injection molding, precision machining, assembly, and packaging.

Velosity has acquired engineering and precision machining company Lucid Labs, growing its ability to support medical device manufacturers from product development through commercialization.

Based in Rogers, Minn., Lucid Labs has partnered with leading medtech OEMs for over two decades, supporting medical technology design, development, and commercialization. The acquisition allows Velosity to engage earlier in the product lifecycle, supporting concept development, prototyping, design refinement, manufacturability and production.

The expanded services cover product development, embedded engineering and rapid prototyping, including concept development, design optimization, design for manufacturability, fixture and process development, CNC and Swiss machining, 3D printing, functional prototypes, and short-run production.

These capabilities complement Velosity’s existing expertise in tooling, injection molding, precision machining, assembly, and packaging, supporting customers from early development through manufacturing readiness and full-scale production.

The combined company’s embedded engineering teams will work directly with customers to evaluate designs, develop prototypes, and prepare products for manufacturing. Lucid’s rapid prototyping capabilities also augments the Velosity Engineering, Launch and Optimization Lab, a specialized precision machining development center located in the company’s Brooklyn Park, Minn. facility.

Tim Hillukka, Lucid’s founder and CEO, will join the merged company as chief innovation officer. He will head ideation and innovation across the combined user base.
